UNA HABITACIÓN EN LA LUNAAquellos turistas y astronautas que decidan pasar sus vacaciones de verano en el espacio tendrán alojamiento de lujo. Una empresa de arquitectura de Barcelona y un grupo de ingenieros de Florida han desarrollado un prototipo de habitación, llamada Galactic Suite, en un hotel espacial con núcleo central parecido a un satélite, en el que se integran 22 habitaciones en forma de cápsulas. Las estancias no tienen ángulos ni líneas rectas, sólo unos salientes en el perímetro para que el cliente se acople y pueda comer, dormir o “mirar el espacio a través de los grandes ventanales, porque lo importante es flotar en libertad observando el exterior”, explica Xavier Claramunt, responsable de la barcelonesa EQUIP Xavier Claramunt. La colocación del hotel en el espacio se efectuaría desde la tierra con transbordadores espaciales Challenger, que transportarían tres habitaciones cada viaje.

HOTELS IN SPACE: GALACTIC SUITES

When the Park Hyatt is not enough, there’s always the Galactic Suite in… space. Alongside a group of engineers from Florida, Barcelona-based architect/designer Xavier Claramunt and his firm EQUIP Xavier Claramunt have designed what is billed at the first prototype od a space hotel. Laboring under the slogan, ”It has to be in the space***, but it has to be a Hotel***”, the hotel takes inspiration from things including, but not limited to, skateboard ramps, eyeballs and, apparently, limpets. The rooms will be 7 meters by 4 meters and will be free of straight lines or angles and have huge windows because, Claramunt says, “the important thing is to float freely while looking outside”. He’s done work for Hospes, Chic&Basic, BMW, Faces (Ferrán Adria), Cosmic and Damm but noteably can’t list NASA as a former client.

DISEÑAN EL PRIMER HOTEL ESPACIAL

Una empresa de arquitectura de Barcelona y un grupo de ingenieros aeronáuticos de los EEUU desarrollaron un prototipo de habitación de hotel espacial, denominado “Galactic Suite”. La iniciativa es para que, en un futuro, las personas que viajen al espacio tengan un sitio donde alojarse. “El hotel se parece a un racimo de uvas. De un núcleo central, parecido a un satélite, en acceder a las habitaciones, que tienen forma de cápsula con un gran ventanal para contemplar el exterior”, explicó Xavier Claramunt, responsable del estudio EQUIP Claramunt.
Claramunt señaló que el proyecto está ideado para que el hombre viva en un espacio más abierto. Ya hay una maqueta del proyecto, elaborada con los mismos materiales con los que se construiría el hotel. Ahora, los mentores buscan que algún consorcio hotelero o de agencias de viajes se interese en la idea para desarrollar un prototipo. Los científicos explicaron que la colocación del hotel en el espacio se efectuaría desde la tierra con transbordadores Challenger.

GALACTIC SUITE, UM HOTEL NO ESPAÇO

O estúdio de arquitetura EQUIP Xavier Claramunt, localizado em Barcelona e uma equipe de engenheiros da Flórida desenvolveram o protótipo para um hotel espacial para turistas e astronautas. Cada quarto no Galactic Suite fica em uma cápsula. Os quartos tem 7 metros de largura e 4 metros de altura e não tem ângulos ou linhas retas. E o hóspede tem a opção de dormir, fazer suas refeições ou observar o espaço de qualquer ponto do quarto, basta prender um velcro em alguns pontos localizados nas paredes. O arquiteto Xavier Claramunt explicou que o hotel será instalado com a ajuda do ônibus espacial, que levaria até três quartos de cada vez. Até 22 cápsulas podem ser acopladas ao núcleo central. Por enquanto o que existe são modelos e imagens renderizadas em 3D, os criadores do hotel estão buscando investidores.

VISIONS DE FUTUR: ASTROHOTEL

Les coses han canviat molt des que Neil Armstrong va dir allò d’un petit pas per a l’home, un gran pas per a la humanitat. Era el 20 de juny de 1969 i els astronautes Armstrong i Aldrin deixa ven una petjada sobre el satèl·lit terrestre com a record de les seves aventures espacials. El somni de viatjar a la Lluna es feia realitat. Tres dècades després, solcar l’espai es convertia en un desig extensible i factible per a qualsevol humà que pogués pagar 15 milions d’euros. La multimilionària iraniana i empresària de telecomunicacions Anousha Ansari (40 anys) signava el taló a finals del setembre passat per passar nou dies en òrbita dins de la càpsula russa Soiuz. Sense anar tan lluny, el propietari de l’administració de loteria La Bruixa d’Or de Sort (Lleida) anunciava recentment que serà el primer català a fer un viatge a l’espai cap a finals del 2008. FROM SPACE HOTEL TO CAPSULE HOTEL

[...] The next stage in “Space Tourism” will certainly see the construction of Space Hotels in the same orbit as the International Space Station, which for a number of years now has been circling above our heads 500 km from the Earth’s surface.
To begin with the launchers for taking tourists to their destination will need to be edesigned. We are considering constructing space-planes composed of two planes coupled together, the first (larger) plane will reach a height of 100 km, the second Orbiter will actually take them to the hotel. The “Galactic Suite” is a Space Hotel composed of a “bunch” of inflatable modules, proper rooms all hooked onto a corridor-joint, positioned centrally, which the spaceships coming from Earth will dock onto.[...]

UNA MIRADA LÚDICA HACIA EL ESPACIO

En el curriculum de Xavier Claramunt se dice que es tanto un arquitecto de edificios como de experiencias. Y esto se aprecia en el hotel Chic&Basic, en Barcelona, o en las delicadas piezas de menaje de Faces (por poner sólo dos ejemplos). Ahora da un paso más. Director de EQUIP, es también el presidente de Galactic Suite, una compañía que, desde Barcelona, propone una cadena mundial de hoteles espaciales. Los arquitectos y diseñadores de EQUIP se han puesto a trabajar con ingenieros, economistas y abogados procedente de dos empresas norteamericanas, una suiza y otras dos españolas. Describing itself as ‘one of the leading companies in the emerging space tourism industry’, and, founded in Barcelona in 2007, it ‘creates and develops cutting-edge concepts to improve the orbital tourism experience’.

We’re watching the sun rise for the one-hundredth time. It’s the last day of our six-day stay in the Galactic Suite, and seeing the sun slide into view from behind the earth is still an amazing sight.
